NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte expressed his support from German Chancellor Olaf Scholtz, who recently criticized President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky for the issue of military assistance to Ukraine. In an interview with DPA agency, whose fragments quoted Spiegel, Rutte said he considered criticism unfair and emphasized the huge contribution of Germany to Ukraine's support.
According to Rutte, Germany ranks second among allies of Ukraine in the US in the amount of military aid exceeding 28 billion euros, and in some estimates, this amount even reaches 34 billion euros. This is a huge contribution that is much ahead of many other European countries, NATO Secretary General.
"I repeatedly spoke to Zelensky that he was unfair to criticize Scholz. Olaf Scholtz made an impressive contribution to the military support of Ukraine, and we have to recognize it. This is a large amount that testifies to the importance of Germany as a partner for Ukraine," Rutte said. At the same time, NATO Secretary General has expressed an understanding of the importance of Taurus's winged missiles for Ukraine and added that if he was on the scene of Scholz, he would agree to their supply and would not impose restrictions on their use. "We understand how important it is to Ukraine," Rutte said, although he also emphasized that the issues of weapons supply should be resolved together.
Despite the difficult situation, Rutte urged to stop criticism against Germany, since Scholz's contribution is significant and deserving of gratitude, not on charges.
