The mayor of Dnipro, Boris Filatov, expressed his point of view on the problem of corruption in Ukraine, stating that in his opinion, she was exaggerated. In an interview, he raised important questions about the perception of corruption in society and the role of media and political reports in the formation of this perception.
Exaggeration of the problem of corruption
Filatov noted that the problem of corruption, as he believes, may be exaggerated. He claims that their own Western partners and they themselves, the Ukrainians, introduced into their minds this "narrative" about widespread corruption in the country. He stressed that a constant mention of corruption in public debates can support those messages that, in his opinion, are distributed by Russian information resources and even Western sources.
"I think the problem of corruption is exaggerated. Because we are not only our Western partners in this, let's say so ... This narrative was put into brains. We have put this narrative in our brains. Because we are all running and saying: corruption, corruption, corruption, corruption!"
Filatov stressed that constant discussion of corruption can be one way to support those messages used by Russian information resources. An important point in his statement is the indicated influence of media and policy on the formation of public opinion on corruption. Filatov believes that a reassessment of the problem of corruption may not be profitable and can lead to accusations of all but themselves.
