Conditions for Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the Olympics

12 Russian and 7 Belarusian athletes qualified for the Olympics.

This was reported by the International Olympic Committee.

In general, according to the IOC, a maximum of 55 Russians will be able to qualify for the Olympics in Paris.

Both Russians and Belarusians will be prohibited from participating in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games.

Russian and Belarusian athletes, in case of victory at the Olympics, will be awarded with music without words.

The medals of Russian and Belarusian athletes will not be taken into account in the overall score of the Olympic Games in Paris.

It is also reported that the IOC did not include a clause condemning the war in Ukraine in the rules for the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to the Olympics.

Athletes in team sports, as well as individual athletes who supported hostilities or are associated with military organizations, will not be allowed to participate in the competition.

The IOC said in a statement that eight Russian and three Belarusian athletes currently meet the requirements and have qualified for next year's Paris Games.

In March, the IOC announced that Russian and Belarusian athletes would only be allowed to compete in individual, but not team, sports. Also, they should perform without the symbols of the country on their uniforms, not be military personnel and not support the war in Ukraine in their social networks.

In mid-October, the IOC suspended the Russian Olympic Committee until further notice due to the inclusion in its composition of sports organizations from the territories of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions of Ukraine, which were annexed by the Russian Federation.

It was previously reported that Ukraine does not rule out a boycott of the 2024 Olympics after the IOC's decision to admit the Russians in neutral status.
