Peace in Ukraine is possible before the summer but a decision behind Kiev

The UK Prime Minister, Kir Starmer, expressed the hope that ceasefire in Ukraine can be reached by the summer of this year. He stated this in an interview with The Telegraph, published on April 24.

According to the head of the British government, the truce must be stable and arranges all parties, especially Ukraine. He stressed that a temporary cease ceasefire would only create risks to new aggression by Russia, as has happened in the past.

The older also stressed that Ukraine should determine the conditions of any peace agreement, not third parties. According to him, respect for Ukrainian sovereignty and independence should remain the basis of any negotiation process.

The Prime Minister called on Russia to agree to the unconditional ceasefire and join the negotiations. He noted that Ukraine should make the final decision on the future conflict.

Separately, the older appealed to the United States to provide security guarantees for Western forces, which can potentially be placed in Ukraine for monitoring peace. According to him, only a clear international presence can guarantee stability and not allow new escalations.

At the same time, the United Kingdom Prime Minister was cautious about the US plans that could include the official recognition of Crimea in Russian. He stressed that this issue should be resolved within the general discussion process.
