Munich Security Conference: "Moscow's ambitions have crossed out all plans"

The Munich Security Conference presented an annual report on the situation in the world called "Lose-Lose?" ("Everyone lose?"). The authors of the report indicate that the usual order of international cooperation was ineffective in resolving new political crises. In particular, the countries of the world are increasingly cooperating and are increasingly holding only their own interests. As a result, in most current crises, "all involved parties" lose, and political uncertainty is increasing.

Analyzing the situation in Eastern Europe, the speakers noted that "the imperial ambitions of Moscow have already led to war and crossed out all plans for joint security work in the near future." In this regard, Ukraine faces the risk of its existence as an independent state, but at the same time the war causes significant damage to the population of Russia, and Europe has to invest finances and efforts in its own defense and support of Ukraine.

The report also notes that after almost two years of war, the fear of Russia in the world has decreased significantly. Russia as the main threat to security is now only indicated by citizens of the United Kingdom and Japan. Many other countries are most concerned about mass migration, radical Islamism, Iran's policy and climate change. In addition, in the Indian and Pacific regions there is an increase in tension and militarization of China, which encourages many countries of the region to seek links to the United States and try to reduce economic dependence on Beijing.

It is noted that the escalation of violence in the Middle East leads to "losing all". After the attack of the Islamist group Hamas, Israel not only suffered losses among civilians, but also lost a sense of security. The strokes of the response led to mass losses among the population of the Gaza Sector and led to the humanitarian crisis. It is noted that instability can spread to other countries in the region where the Islamist groups supported by Iran.

The same trends are observed in Africa, where military coups in Burkina-Faso, Mali and Nigeri took place last year. Locals lose their chances of democratic progress, and the US and the EU are considering reducing influence in these regions and expanding partnerships.

The next Munich Conference on Security is taking place this week and gathers leading representatives of foreign policy agencies and experts from all over the world to discuss the most pressing issues of world security. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky also participates in the conference.
