In Vinnytsia, a splash of viral hepatitis A was recorded in one of the city areas. Since the onset of the outbreak, 60 people have been hospitalized with a confirmed hepatitis A diagnosis, including 14 children. Another 14 patients are under medical supervision and are awaiting diagnosis. All victims receive the necessary medical care and remain under the supervision of doctors.
There is currently no source of infection for these cases.
Hepatitis A is a viral disease that affects the liver and can have both a mild and severe course. Hepatitis A virus is transmitted through the consumption of contaminated food or water, as well as in improper personal hygiene. Also, family members can become infected when an infected person prepares food for everyone.
The incubation period of viral hepatitis A is usually 14-28 days. Among the most common symptoms are weakness, fever, diarrhea, vomiting, jaundice. Hepatitis A vaccines are registered in Ukraine and available on the market. It is especially important to be vaccinated with hepatitis A adults working in public catering and food industry, as well as water treatment facilities.
