Ukraine will soon receive a new batch of multi-purpose F-16 fighters from Western partners. This was stated by the Commander -in -Chief of the Joint NATO forces in Europe, General Christopher Cavoli during the hearing at the US Senate Committee of the Armed Forces on Thursday, April 3.
According to the general, the Western countries have already transferred several F-16 to Ukraine that are actively used at the front. At the same time, the preparation of additional aircraft, as well as new Ukrainian pilots, which will be able to control these fighters, continues.
"There are more F-16, which is being prepared for deployment. There are even more pilots that are trained," Cavoli said.
Pilots undergo intensive training in European countries and the United States, as the F-16 differ significantly from the Soviet aircraft that Ukraine has used earlier.
Ukraine is already actively applying the F-16 obtained. General Kavoli stressed that these fighters fly daily and play an important role in the fight against Russian aggression.
In particular, the F-16 helped to destroy a large number of Russian missiles and drones, reflecting the enemy attacks. Aircraft are also involved in offensive operations, causing bomb strokes in hostile positions in eastern Ukraine.
"None of the F-16 was with the United States. For the most part, they were from the North European countries-the Netherlands, Denmark," the general said.
The transfer of additional F-16 is an important step in strengthening the Ukrainian military-air forces. These planes have significant advantages over Russian fighters and can control the airspace more effectively, protecting strategic objects and civilian populations.
At the same time, the successful use of the F-16 in Ukraine can push allies to provide even more such aircraft in the future.
