NATO opens a summit in Washington with an emphasis on support for Ukraine

The Washington Summit of the North Atlantic Alliance, which opens today, will discuss key issues of support of Ukraine. For three days of the meeting, which will take place in the light of the 75th anniversary of the signing of the NATO Washington Treaty, the leaders of 32 Member States will discuss the future of the Defense Union.

The summit will be attended by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, who has already arrived in the United States through Warsaw, where he is expected to sign a bilateral security agreement with Poland.

The main aspect of the summit will be the decision to strengthen NATO support to Ukraine, including a new assistance plan and additional financing by 40 billion euros, distributed between Member States according to their GDP. An announcement of a large package of military assistance, including Patriot systems and missiles for them, will also be expected, which will strengthen Ukraine's air defense.

Unexpectedly for many, Ukraine's official invitation to NATO's full membership will not be sent, although the Summit Commune defines its Euro -Atlantic course as an "irreversible".
