Germany and Italy are working together to build a pipeline through the Alps

The leaders of Italy and Germany announced on Wednesday, November 22, plans for the construction of the gas pipeline and the hydrogen pipeline through the Alps to strengthen energy supplies.

German Chancellor Olaf Soltz stressed that the project will "strengthen long-term supplies, will ensure safety and promote transformation.

The new pipeline is planned for transportation of resources from North Africa through Italy, Austria and Southern Germany. According to reports, by 2030 it will import 10 million tons of hydrogen.

"We strive to expand our energy cooperation to strengthen long-term supplies, improve the safety and promote transformation. Launching a new pipeline through Alps will increase energy safety in both of our countries. We also hope to quickly conclude a German-Italian gas and solidarity agreement.

The project also takes into account the promotion of renewable energy in North Africa and the creation of a European hydrogen network, combining demand centers in Italy, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The discussion on the project began in June this year during the visit of Scholz to Rome.
