Employees of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) of Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed their views on the protection of Ukraine's skies from NATO territory.
SPD defense expert Joe Weingarten said that in the current military situation, it is worth considering the deployment of German anti-aircraft missile forces on the border with Ukraine in order to protect the airspace over Western Ukraine, for example, with the help of Patriot systems.
He emphasized that Germany should do everything possible so that Ukraine can resist Russian attacks.
However, the leader of the SPD parliamentary faction, Rolf Mützenich, noted that the issue of protecting Ukraine's airspace with the help of NATO does not gather support in the party, as it could deviate Germany from the principle of non-intervention in the war.
The deputy leader of the CDU parliamentary faction, Johann Wadeful, also urged caution, arguing that direct intervention in hostilities could turn third countries into belligerents, which could not be acceptable to Germany.
