The occupiers plan to erect a monument to Lenin in the center of Mariupol: an attempt to restore Soviet symbols

A monument to Vladimir Lenin, which was dismantled in 2014, may appear in the center of the temporarily occupied Mariupol. The plans for the restoration of the monument were declared by the occupiers who seek to establish the statue of the "leader of the world proletariat" in the central part of the city.

The Mariupol City Council reported it, saying that Lenin's monuments were demolished in 2014 from different areas of the city. The occupiers intend to install a statue that was previously located on the Square of Mechanical Engineers near Petrovsky Park in Kalmius district. However, the exact place of installation remains unknown.

The city authorities expressed their concern with such plans of the invaders, calling it an attempt to return Mariupol to the Soviet past. We recall that earlier the city council reported difficulties with heating in the occupied Mariupol because of the stop of the boiler room.

Attempts to restore Soviet symbols in aggression can cause outrage and note the attempts of the occupiers to influence the history and culture of the local population.
