Pope Francis made a brief speech on St. Peter's Square

Pope Francis, an 88-year-old Roman pontiff, first appeared in public after two weeks ago discharged from the hospital after treating bilateral pneumonia. On Sunday, April 6, he went to St. Peter's Square in the Vatican in a wheelchair to congratulate the believers during a weekly midday prayer.

Francis unexpectedly appeared on the square of St. Peter, where he usually holds his traditional prayer. The Pope waved the crowd, and then made a brief speech, greeting the audience with the words: "Happy Sunday to all." His voice was weak, but he thanked the believers for their support. On this day, the Pope also joined the participants of the forgiveness, which was organized for patients and infirm pilgrimage to the Vatican. Before contacting the audience, the Pontiff visited St. Peter's basilica, where he spent time in prayer and performed reconciliation, passing through the holy door.

It was the first public appearance of Pope Francis after his discharge from the hospital on March 23, when he briefly congratulated the public after more than five weeks of treatment at Dzhemelli's Roman Hospital.
