China expressed "deep harm" because of the decision of the gentlemen to leave the Chinese initiative "One Belt - One Way" and urged the government of the country to revise its decision. The official Beijing emphasized the importance of partnership with Panama and expressed his hope for restoration of cooperation.
The Assistant Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China, Zhao Zhujuan, during a meeting with the Ambassador of Panama to China, Leonardo Alfonso Kam Binsa, stated that China respects the sovereignty of the Panama, but pointed to the benefits of working together in the framework of the initiative that contributes to the development of infrastructure and economic growth.
Zhao also noted that the US attempts to press on Panama, threatening and trying to undermine Chinese-Panama relations, are groundless. According to him, the relations between China and Panama were not intended to influence third countries, and their further strengthening is profitable for both states.
The Ambassador of Panama assured that his country attaches great importance to relations with China and promised to transfer the Chinese address to his government. However, the final decision remains after Panama.
