In the presidential election in Poland, a candidate from the Conservative Party "Law and Justice", the chairman of the Institute of National Memory Karol Navrotsky won. According to the official data of the State Election Commission, it received 50.89% of the vote, ahead of the mayor of Warsaw Rafala Taszkovsky by 1.78%. The total difference in the number of votes was about 369 thousand, with more than 10.6 million voters supported Navrotsky.
Initially, the leader of the race was Tshaskovsky, who represents a powerful civil coalition, but during the counting of votes the situation changed in favor of Navrotsky. It is worth noting that the political position of the new president against Ukraine is ambiguous. In January 2025, Karol Navrotsky stated that he did not see the future of Ukraine in the European Union and NATO, referring to the need to clarify historical issues, including the Volyn tragedy. He also stands for the restriction of assistance to Ukraine, denies against immigration and the "green" EU course. In contrast to him, the mayor of Warsaw Rafal Taskovsky is a supporter of European integration of Ukraine and supports the country's accession to NATO, as well as advocates the environmental initiatives of the European Union. In addition, Navrotsky has repeatedly been at the center of scandals. In particular, on May 26, during the debate, he got into an unpleasant situation because of his bad habit, which received a wide publicity in the media.
Thus, the victory of Karol Navrotsky marks an important political turn for Poland and its position in relations with Ukraine and the European Union.
