South Korea has announced the imposition of sanctions against 11 individuals and 15 organizations that contribute to the Kremlin's war against Ukraine and support the development of North Korean nuclear and missile programs. The sanctions will come into force on Thursday, December 19.
The list of individuals included high -ranking officials of the Korean People's Army, including the Deputy Chief of General Staff, Director of the Operational Bureau and General, who probably heads the so -called "assault corps". This military unit is deployed on the Western Front of Russia. In addition, the list included Russians who provided financial support for Moscow and Pyongyang cooperation, transported weapons and assisted with the supply of military equipment.
Among the organizations that have come under sanctions are 15 companies, most of which are Russian. The exception is the "assault corps" and a bank based in South Ossetia. These firms play a key role in the funding and financial support of North Korea nuclear and missile programs.
South Korea's decision has become part of global efforts to pressure Russia and North Korea for their military and financial cooperation. This step demonstrates that Seoul is ready to join a wider coalition, which condemns the Kremlin's aggressive policy and support his war against Ukraine.
