Poland will extend the buffer zone on the border with Belarus

The Polish authorities have confirmed that they plan to extend the operation of the buffer zone on the border with Belarus. The Polish Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, Tomasz Semoniak, said that the new order, which will come into force on September 11 and will be valid for another 90 days, is already at the final stage.

"The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration is finalizing the preparation of the order that will extend the buffer zone," Semoniak said in an interview with Onet.pl. He also specified that neither the length of the buffer zone nor the rules of conduct in its territory will undergo changes.

The buffer zone covers a section of the border 60.67 km long within the border posts in Narevka, Bilovezh, Dubychi-Tserkivna and Cheremsa. This measure was implemented on June 13, 2024 and involves a temporary ban on staying in this territory.

We will remind that in August of this year, 17,000 troops were deployed on the Polish-Belarusian border as part of the "Safe Pidlyashsia" operation. The operation also involved police officers, including those with experience in Kosovo.

According to Semoniak, the implementation of the buffer zone "brought specific good results" and therefore there are no plans to change its parameters.
