Sweden considers the possibility of reviewing its policy on the placement of nuclear weapons in its territory in the face of increasing military threat. This was stated by Prime Minister ULF Kristerson.
"In the event of a war, this becomes a significant issue. Democratic countries should ensure their defense capability if there is a potential threat of nuclear weapons," the Prime Minister emphasized.
He also stressed that NATO membership and the general defense of Sweden are aimed at preventing such situations.
Crristrson noted that if Ukraine was a member of NATO, it would give it additional security guarantees from potential threats, including aggression from Russia.
According to the report, in June, Ricksdag will consider a government bill on military cooperation with the United States, known as the DCA agreement. This agreement will allow US troops to use 17 Swedish military bases across the country.
However, the agreement was criticized due to the lack of a ban on the placement of nuclear weapons in Sweden, unlike similar agreements with Denmark and Norway. The Government believes that such a ban is optional, since there is already a decision of parliament on the absence of nuclear weapons in Sweden in peacetime.
