In an interview with the Chinese agency "Sinhhua", President of the Russian Federation made several important statements about the situation in Ukraine and negotiations on peaceful settlement of the conflict in the east of the country.
According to him, the diplomatic process can be based on a Chinese peace plan, which provides for the beginning of negotiations under the current front line (that is, without the withdrawal of Russian troops).
In this case, negotiations should include "a serious conversation about security guarantees for Russia and the opposing side (ie, Ukraine - ed.)". Putin called the main problem in the negotiation of "reliability of guarantees" by the event.
According to the President of the Russian Federation, Ukraine and the West do not want to discuss the Chinese plan.
"Unfortunately, these initiatives do not find support in Ukraine or its Western patrons. They are not ready for equal, honest and open dialogue," Putin said. Russia, according to him, has "never refused."
