Workers' Party ( RPC), which has been fighting against the Turkish for over 40 years , has announced the dissolution of its organizational structure and the termination of the armed struggle. This historical decision was made at the 12th Congress of the Party, which took place on May 5-7 in two regions of Northern Iraq, and is of great importance for stability in the region.
The decision of the RPC marks the step to the termination of the actual war with Turkey, which has been going on for more than four decades. An organization that is a terrorist recognized in Turkey, the United States and the European Union has announced the transition to political and democratic methods of struggle. Representatives of the RPC noted that this decision opens a new stage in their movement for freedom and truth. They also appealed to the international community calling for a policy of genocide, which, according to them , has been conducted against Kurds for the last 100 years. The party has called for Turkish authorities to provide legal and political guarantees for the leader the RPC Abdullah Odsalan, who has been serving life imprisonment on the island of Imral since 1999 on charges of treason . In February 2025 , Ozalan urged his supporters to lay down their weapons and move to the peaceful resolution of Kurdish issues through political channels. In his address, the leader of the RPC emphasized that the organization originated in the twentieth century against the background of major social upheavals, two world wars and the collapse of socialism. However the situation now , and the party believes that the armed struggle is no longer an effective way of achieving its goals.
The armed struggle conducted by the RPC against Turkish government claimed the lives of more than 40,000 people. The main purpose of the party was to create an independent Kurdish state and protect the national rights of Kurds. However, according to the leaders of the RPC, it is time to change the strategy, and the organization is ready to turn to peaceful, political ways to solve the problem of the Kurdish people.
