Russian misinformation campaigns aimed at undermining Ukraine's support in Europe have increased significantly, skill and secrecy, warned one of Germany's high -ranking diplomats.
"This is a great threat that we need to take seriously," said Ralph Beste in an interview with Financial Times, Head of the Department of Culture and Communications of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany.
According to Beste, it is very difficult to resist such efforts, and this testifies to how much Russia has departed since the notorious "troll farms" that have used real people to spread dissent, often in a clumsy and obvious manner.
"It is now not just about true or false information. It's something more. It is about distorting thoughts. An attempt to change the balance sheet of the discussion. Or convince people that the debate framework is different from what really is,"
Beste explained.
