The SBU stopped the illegal sale of weapons

The Security Service of Ukraine has stopped attempts to sell weapons and ammunition illegally in several regions of the country. According to the SBU, during the operation in the Zhytomyr, Cherkasy and Kirovohrad regions, five people who tried to establish an underground arms market were detained.

In the Zhytomyr region, two local residents were detained who were selling "trophy" weapons that were exported from the areas of hostilities in Donetsk region. Among those detained is a 41-year-old recidivist who was previously convicted of illegal sale of firearms, but continued his criminal activities using criminal connections.

During the search of the cache organized in the garage, the following was seized:

  • more than 1 kg of explosives with detonators;
  • RGD-5 and F-1 combat grenades;
  • more than half a thousand cartridges of various calibers.

A 30-year-old deserter who embezzled weapons and ammunition from a military unit was detained in Cherkasy region. The detainee tried to sell five combat grenades, a Kalashnikov assault rifle with cartridges and two silencers, hiding them in his parents' house.

Two deserters who planned to sell five anti-tank grenade launchers and 11 F-1 grenades to criminal circles were detained in Kropyvnytskyi. During the search, they also seized combat pistols, a machine gun, an anti-personnel mine and explosives.

All the detainees were notified of the suspicion, they face up to seven years in prison.
