On January 20, the US Senate unanimously approved Marko Rubio's candidacy for the post of Secretary of State. This was the first high -ranking appointment in the new Presidential Administration Donald Trump, CNN reports.
All 99 of the Senators present, which is a rare manifestation of two -party consent, voted in favor of Rubio. The nomination of Rubio, which was initiated by President Trump, received strong support among both Republicans and Democrats.
Earlier, Rubio worked as a Senator-Republican from Florida since 2011, and many of his colleagues in the Senate called him highly skilled for the new role.
After the vote, Marco Rubio stated that unanimous approval had become a great honor for him.
"I am grateful for the support of my colleagues. Maybe some voted for me to get rid of, but jokes are important work at an important time," he said.
