Switzerland will not provide Ukraine, despite the simplification of arms exports

According to the latest reports from Bloomberg, the Swiss government considers the possibility of simplifying the rules of export of weapons, but does not plan to supply military equipment to Ukraine. Even with a new approach to exports, Switzerland retains its traditional neutrality in relations with world conflicts.

The Swiss Government wants to be able to bypass the country's rigid neutrality and allow the expansion of weapons exports. But at the same time he is going to maintain a ban on military deliveries of Kiev, writes Bloomberg.

According to the publication, Switzerland prohibits the sale of weapons to countries in a state of war, unless they participate in hostilities under the auspices of the UN. As a result, its manufacturers suffered losses even against the background of a global defense boom, and in 2023 their foreign sales fell by 27%.

But, according to the new Cabinet initiative, Bern will be able to abolish export restrictions in "exceptional circumstances" if it is in accordance with "foreign policy or national security interests".

The legislators demanded more flexibility to support the Swiss MIC, which plays a key role in the country's traditional neutrality.

At the same time, Switzerland has stated that it would not use an exception to permission from deliveries to Kiev. Earlier, she had already forbidden to send her weapons to Germany, Spain and Denmark to Ukraine, Bloomberg said.
