Russian President Vladimir Putin is feeling the ground on the United States's to join the conflict in Ukraine , Bloomberg writes. Referring to anonymous sources close to the Kremlin, the news agency reports that "signals" from Moscow were obtained by Washington in December through a mediator, whose name is not called.
Bloomberg interlocutors say that Russia may assume the possibility of refusing to require the neutral status of Ukraine and not to join NATO, but will insist on the recognition of territories that are now controlled by Russian troops.
The Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in response to a question by Bloomberg, said Putin has repeatedly stated that Russia remains open to Ukraine.
"We are determined to achieve our goals. And we would prefer to achieve them with diplomatic means. If not, the military operation will continue until we achieve our goals," Peskov added.
US officials say they do not know anything about proposals and they see no signs that Russian President is seriously set to look for a way to put an end to combat.
Russia's openness to negotiations - regardless of its sincerity, - writes Bloomberg, can sow a split among allies of Ukraine, isolate Kiev and undermine the efforts of Vladimir Zelensky to enlist the support of the formula of peace, which provides Russia from the controlled territories.
