The US and its allies held a secret meeting with Ukraine on a "peace plan" - Bloomberg

In early January, it became known that last month a closed meeting between Ukraine, G7 countries and a small group of countries of the Global South was held, in order to support Ukrainian conditions for peace talks with Russia. According to Bloomberg, the meeting of national security advisers took place on December 16 in Saudi Arabia and had a secret character to ensure comfort for participating countries.

According to sources, this format has allowed to discuss the Ukrainian formula of peace and plans to implement it more openly, as well as to discuss the principles of future cooperation with Russia. Recently, the efforts of the Allies, in particular in the US and the EU, have been delayed in connection with the approval of assistance in Washington and Brussels, and Ukraine's counter -offensive has not led to a significant change in the situation at the front.

According to high-ranking officials, the last meeting in Riyadh did not produce significant results. Ukraine and its allies continue to oppose the countries of the South to interact with Russia. Against this background, the Russian side has condemned the attempts of the Allies to resolve the issue without its participation.

Although high-ranking officials of India, Saudi Arabia and Turkey participated in December meeting in Riyadh, representatives of other major global countries, such as China, Brazil and UAE, are absent. According to sources, many participating countries consider Beijing a key factor in influencing Moscow because of close links between Russia and China.

Kyiv and its allies from G7 have determined their attitude to the situation, confirming the importance of Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty. They also emphasized that the position of Russian leader Vladimir Putin remains unchanged, and he does not express a serious desire to conduct constructive negotiations.

It is jointly stated that Ukraine's support will be continued, and the EU and the US have been confident that the help packages will be agreed. It is important to note that a large package of assistance in the form of more than $ 100 billion from the US and the EU is still under consideration of relevant governments.

Negotiations with Russia

Last December, The New York Times reported "signals" from Russian leader Vladimir Putin about the desire to freeze the war against Ukraine and start negotiations. It was noted that Putin proposes to stop the fighting on the current lines of the front. Similar signals were sent a year ago.

Analysts believe that the Kremlin can use these "signals" to change the situation on the front and reduce assistance from the Allies. Ukraine confirms its readiness for the rapid end of the war, but under its terms and within the framework of international law.
