The USA exempted Turkey from sanctions against Russia's Gazprombank

The United States has made an exception for Turkey in the implementation of sanctions against Russia's Gazprombank, which will allow the country to continue payments for the supply of Russian gas without the risk of falling under American restrictions. This was stated by the Minister of Energy of Turkey, Alparslan Bayraktar, in an interview with the agency.

According to the minister, this decision was made after a series of negotiations with American officials, during which Turkey emphasized the critical importance of gas supplies from Russia, which make up more than a third of the country's energy imports. From now on, Turkey will be able to make unhindered payments through Gazprombank, which otherwise could be grounds for imposing sanctions on Ankara.

Sanctions against Gazprombank were imposed by the United States in November of this year as part of economic pressure on Russia. They have caused concern in many countries, especially in the European Union, since Gazprombank plays a key role in the settlement of Russian gas supplies.

Turkey has previously insisted on the need for an exception due to its high level of dependence on Russian gas. The US concession allows Ankara to avoid interruptions in the supply of energy resources and guarantee the energy stability of the country.
