The US has accused China of supporting Russia in its war against Ukraine, pointing to a discrepancy between Beijing's claims of peace and its actual actions. The Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations, Robert Wood, criticized the meeting of the United Nations Security Council, saying that China, although it proclaims the need to respect sovereignty and territorial integrity, does not use its influence on Russia to stop aggression against Ukraine.
Wood emphasized that China continues to supply Russia with dual-use goods that support its military-industrial complex. This includes materials for making bombs, spare parts for machinery, equipment for weapons factories, and technology for the production of drones and missiles. This, according to the USA, is a tacit approval of Russian aggression.
Instead of using its influence constructively, China provides political cover for Russia, repeating Kremlin propaganda and effectively ignoring the principles of the UN Charter. Wood emphasized that in order to achieve a peaceful resolution of the conflict, China should stop supplying military materials to Russia, impose sanctions on the Russian Federation and call on Moscow to withdraw its troops from Ukraine.
The US calls on China to demonstrate leadership on the international stage by being responsible for upholding the principles of the UN Charter as a permanent member of the Security Council.
