The United Kingdom confirms the support of Ukraine on its way to NATO membership. This was stated by Prime Minister Kir Starmer during a telephone conversation with Vladimir Zelensky on February 14, reports The Guardian.
According to Sarmer, London will provide Kiev support as much as it will be needed. He stressed that any negotiations on Ukraine cannot take place without its direct participation. The British Prime Minister emphasized the importance of providing Kyiv with reliable security guarantees and continuing military assistance.
The older also confirmed that the Allies at the Washington Summit had agreed Ukraine's irreversible journey to NATO, and the United Kingdom remains favorable to this decision.
At the same time, the US position on Ukraine's accession to the Alliance looks less unambiguous. Defense Minister Pete Hegset at a NATO meeting in Brussels stated that Washington is not supporting this process at this time. Moreover, he noted that the United States did not recognize the right of Ukraine to return Crimea and other territories occupied by Russia after 2014.
Former President Donald Trump, who has a significant impact on American policy, called Ukraine's membership in NATO "impractical". These statements testify to the differences in the positions of the Allies on the Euro -Atlantic future Kiev.
