NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said during a press conference in Kyiv that Ukraine will not receive an invitation to the Alliance summit in July. He noted that although the Alliance is doing everything possible for Ukraine to become a member of NATO, such a decision requires the consensus of all Alliance members, and such a consensus is currently difficult to achieve.
"When the time is right, Ukraine will immediately become a member of NATO. We will do everything for this. In order for this decision to be made, we need all the members of the Alliance to agree with it, we need consensus. I do not expect that we will be able to reach such an agreement at the summit in July, but I think that we will be able to demonstrate that we are bringing Ukraine closer to membership," Stoltenberg said.
This statement by Stoltenberg shows that the issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO remains relevant, but its implementation requires time and the broad support of all Alliance members. In the meantime, NATO will continue to support Ukraine and work to strengthen the partnership between Ukraine and the Alliance.
