Jens Stoltenberg, who left the post of Secretary -General of NATO, emphasized that the Alliance States should support the Ukrainian "formula of peace" and not the alternative initiatives proposed by other countries. He stated this in an interview with Politico.
NATO's position on Ukrainian initiative
Stoltenberg answered the question of Turkey's involvement in the Chinese-Brazilian initiative "Friends of Peace", which promotes its "peaceful initiative". The former NATO Secretary General noted that the Alliance should support the Ukrainian initiative because it "guarantees that we have a process that can lead to a long peace."
He also emphasized that Ukrainians should determine what conditions are acceptable, because they are victims of a full -scale invasion.
Alternative initiatives and their influence
Earlier, the support of the Chinese-Brazilian "peaceful initiative" was expressed by Hungary and Switzerland. This initiative, declared in May 2024, consists of six points that do not mention the UN Statute or the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Instead, there is a call for "stopping hostilities" and "non -proliferation of the conflict".
A group of 17 countries, including Turkey is the only member of NATO, has already joined the Peace Friends initiative.
