Tragedy at a mine in Kazakhstan: Fire took the lives of 16 miners

Kazakhstan collided with a tragedy at a mining mine, where a fire, probably caused by an explosion of gas, claimed the lives of 16 miners.

This tragedy happened at the Kostenko mine in the Karagandinsk region on October 28. At the time of the crash, there were 252 people in the mine, of which 205 miners were rescued on the surface. However, underground, there are dozens of people remain, which makes lifelong work extremely difficult and dangerous.

Akim of the region, Ermaganbeth Bilepaev, reported that 18 people were hospitalized, and 40 rescuers and 10 units of specialized equipment were working at the scene. An operational headquarters was also created to coordinate actions to eliminate the consequences of the accident.

Emergency Minister, Ryim Shariphanov, arrived at the scene to personally manage the rescue operations and assist the victims.

The Prosecutor General's Office of Kazakhstan has already launched a pre -trial investigation into this disaster under the article “Violation of safety rules during mining or construction work”. This indicates a serious approach to finding out the causes of the fire and identifying possible violations.

Particular attention is paid to the owner of the mine, JSC ArcelorMittal Temirtau, a company controlled by British billionaire of Indian origin Lakshmi Mittal. This is not the first incident on the mines of this company in the Karagandin coal basin. In August of the same year, a fire occurred at the other mine of Kazakhstan, which killed five people and 16 injured.

According to official data, more than 100 people have been killed in ArcelorMittal Temirtau. These figures emphasize serious security problems at the company's mines.

President of Kazakhstan, Kasim-Zhomart Tokaev, has already expressed his strong fears and instructed the government to "stop investment cooperation with" Arcelormittal-Temirtau ". This decision has caused a mass discussion and requirements for reviewing relationships with the company.
