US President Donald Trump said he plans to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin shortly after his join. Trump's inauguration is scheduled for the next week, and he does not rule out that this meeting will be his first official contact with the Kremlin head after the start of Russia's war against Ukraine in 2022.
Although the exact date of the meeting is not yet, Trump has expressed his readiness for negotiations, indicating that the strategy of future relations between the US and Russia depends largely on their implementation. "There is only one strategy and it depends on Putin. I do not think that he is delighted with how everything went, because it is not quite good for him," Trump said.
The politician also added that he was ready to meet Putin "very quickly" after inauguration, but explained why this did not happen before: "For some things you should be in office."
A probable meeting can be a significant event in the conditions of tense relations between the United States and Russia caused by war in Ukraine and numerous international sanctions against Moscow.
