US President Donald Trump and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a telephone conversation on Wednesday, which lasted about an hour. This was reported at the Presidential Office of Ukraine, as well as the main correspondent of Financial Times Christopher Miller.
This conversation took place shortly after Trump's telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the Advisor of the President of Ukraine Dmitry Lytvyn, the main topics of the discussion were the situation at the front, the prospects of peaceful settlement and the future partnership between Kiev and Washington.
US Finance Minister Scott Bessent, who is visiting Kiev, said that the Trump administration plans to act very quickly to end the war in Ukraine. He also noted that the Partnership Agreement of Ukraine and the United States would be part of a major White House diplomatic initiative.
Earlier, Trump reported that he was planning to meet Zelensky in person this week. The parties will be expected to discuss the prospects for the use of rare earth fossils in Ukraine during the meeting.
"I will probably meet with President Zelensky next week," Trump said, stressing that the United States seeks to "protect the underground resources of Ukraine."
At the same time, the American leader added that he could talk again with Vladimir Putin, noting that he always had a "good relationship" with the Russian president.
This series of diplomatic contacts may testify to the attempts of Trump administration to initiate a new negotiation process aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
