US President Donald Trump assured that Washington will continue to assist Ukraine, but stressed that "money should be provided". He stated this at a press conference in the White House on February 13, Voice of America .
Trump noted that the cessation of support of Kiev could give the impression that Putin has won, so help would continue. At the same time, he criticized the approach of the previous administration, stating that the money was given to Ukraine “senseless”, while its government would require guarantee of refund.
"Our money will be provided. They (in Ukraine - ed.) There are rare earth metals, oil, gas and more. We ask that our help is reinforced, and Ukrainians agree to it ," Trump said.
The day before, the US President had telephone conversations with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. The main theme was to settle the war in Ukraine.
Trump also confirmed that he would personally meet Putin in a "not too distant future." According to him, the first negotiations can take place in Saudi Arabia, and later - in other places.
Trump said Ukraine has received $ 350 billion assistance from the United States, although according to the Pentagon's official data, this amount is about 66.5 billion since the beginning of the administration of Joe Biden.
Trump also noted that European countries provided $ 100 billion in borrowing to Ukraine. However, these Ramstein Group , which coordinates Ukraine's military support, shows that the total amount of assistance from the Allies has been over $ 126 billion since April 2022.
