US President Donald Trump considers the possibility of imposing new large -scale sanctions against Russia, if he does not agree to ceasefire and peace talks with Ukraine. This was stated by the American leader on his social network Truth Social on Friday, March 7.
According to Trump, he seriously considers the option of increasing economic pressure on Moscow, in particular through banking sanctions, additional duties and restrictions. He called on both sides of the conflict to sit immediately at the negotiation table.
“Considering that Russia is absolutely pressing on Ukraine on the battlefield right now, I seriously consider large -scale banking sanctions, sanctions and duties on Russia, until ceasefire and final agreements on peace will not be reached. To Russia and Ukraine: sit down at the table right now until it is too late. Thank you, ” Trump wrote.
Earlier, US Presidential Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia, Kit Kelloggi said that the White House actively put pressure on both Moscow and Kiev, using the whip and gingerbread strategy. According to him, the United States uses a wide range of diplomatic and economic instruments to encourage the parties to a peace agreement.
Thus, new sanctions can be an additional lever of Washington's influence on Moscow to make it compromise in the war against Ukraine.
