Trump is considering sanctions due to the failure of negotiations

US President Donald Trump has come close to a solution that can significantly affect the further development of the war in Ukraine - the introduction of new sanctions against the Russian Federation. According to The Wall Street Journal , which refers to sources in the administration, the corresponding decision can be made this week.

After months of diplomatic efforts and protracted peace talks, Trump's team increases. Sources report that the head of the White House was tired of both Russia's constant attacks on the Ukrainian territory and, in his opinion, the uncompromising position of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

According to WSJ , Trump seriously considers the opportunity to withdraw from the peace process if the "last push" in the form of sanctions does not make the Kremlin change the position. Such a step will be a radical turn in US foreign policy, which can have unpredictable consequences for Ukrainian-American relations and all security architecture in Europe.

It is, in particular, about the 30-day ceasefire that supports Kiev but rejects Moscow. This initiative could be the basis for further negotiations, but the Kremlin's reluctance to compromise, according to the interlocutors of the newspaper, annoyed Trump.

Despite the discussion of new measures, the Trump administration, according to sources, does not plan to impose new sanctions against the banking sector of the Russian Federation. Instead, more "point" pressure tools are considered - in particular, restrictions on trade in individual technologies, assets and industries that can directly affect Russia's defense industry.

But even this decision remains in question. Washington understands that further sanctions are unlikely to significantly reduce Moscow's military capabilities, but can undermine the prospect of normalizing US-Russian economic relations-one of Trump's foreign foreign policy priorities.

At the same time, Trump's annoyance is not only Putin. According to sources, he has discontent with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. The reason is its public pressure on the United States demanding to impose new sanctions against the Kremlin, despite Ukraine's readiness to agree to the ceasefire.

The White House administration believes that such a position of Kiev is more about a public game than a real desire to reach a compromise.
