The European Union has adopted new standards for clothing manufacturers

The European Parliament and the member states of the European Union have previously agreed on a ban on the disposal of new clothes and set other requirements for the textile industry in the future.

On Tuesday, it was announced that the European Parliament and EU member states have reached a preliminary agreement on a ban on throwing away unsold new clothes and shoes. It is noted that for large enterprises, this norm will enter into force two years after the adoption of the relevant law.

The idea of banning the industrial recycling of new clothes and other initiatives regarding the textile industry was put forward by the European Commission as early as 2022.

The previously agreed provisions also include a requirement for manufacturers to report annually on the volumes of rejected and discarded products in order to encourage them to reduce these volumes. In addition, manufacturers should provide information on the "ecological footprint" of each product unit.

The proposal also includes other new requirements for the textile industry, aimed at reducing its negative impact on the environment, as well as commitments to make products more durable, resource-efficient and recyclable.
