US President Donald Trump appealed to Russia calling for its full -scale war against Ukraine, saying that the conflict is taking too many lives. In his publication on the Truth Social platform on April 11, he stressed that thousands of people die every week in a senseless war, which, in his opinion, never had to begin.
Trump wrote: “Russia must move. Too many people die, thousands of a week, in a terrible and senseless war - a war that never had to happen and would not happen if I was president! ”. These words sounded against the background of the visit of US President Special Representative Steve Witcoff to Russia.
Trump did not indicate what specific steps he meant when he called on Russia to "move", but it is obvious that his statement was part of the constant criticism of the current President of the United States Joe Biden and his policies on Ukraine and Russia.
On the same day that Trump made his statement, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Vitcoff would meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to Peskov, the main topic of negotiations will be the discussion of the Ukrainian settlement. It happened against the backdrop of increasing international tensions due to the continuation of the war in Ukraine, as well as against the backdrop of important diplomatic initiatives aimed at resolving the conflict.
Trump is not the first time he expresses his position on the war in Ukraine. Earlier, he stated that if he was a president, he could have avoided this conflict by applying his diplomatic skills and influence on Russia.
