The chairman of the Central Election Commission Oleg Didenko stated that at this point the CEC is not preparing for elections in Ukraine. He told this in an interview with Radio Liberty on February 19.
According to him, elections are an extremely complex and responsible process that should not become a field for experiments.
"They are very difficult on the one hand and, on the other, very responsible. Therefore, some cardinal innovations are very dangerous things that can adversely affect and destabilize the situation," Didenko said.
The CEC head also added that Ukraine is not yet ready for the introduction of voting online or by mail. In his opinion, before talking about elections, it is necessary to reach peace, to abolish martial law and to make changes to legislation, which will ensure the proper preparation of the election process.
Didenko's statement was heard against the background of international discussions on the absence of elections in Ukraine. Earlier, US expatriate Donald Trump sharply spoke to Vladimir Zelensky, calling him a "dictator without elections". However, the Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly emphasized that the Constitution prohibits elections during martial law, and their restoration is possible only after stabilizing the situation in the country.
