The first medicinal product based on medical cannabis may be available to Ukrainian patients as early as January 2025. This was reported by Olha Stefanyshina, a member of the parliamentary committee on the health of the nation, during a press conference in Kyiv on December 11.
"Now, as far as I know, the first registration of the medicinal product is already in progress. We are very much looking forward to that happening in December. We hope that in January it will be possible to prescribe real medicines based on medical cannabis," said Stefanyshina.
According to her, Ukraine already has the necessary regulatory framework for the circulation of such drugs, but they are still not presented on the market. The main reason is the lack of registered means.
“Right now, everything is in place for patients to receive medical cannabis products today, apart from medical cannabis itself. In addition to the regulatory system, someone needs to register these drugs in Ukraine," the deputy explained.
Access to cannabis-based medicinal products is expected to be a significant step in improving the quality of life of patients with chronic diseases, severe pain and other conditions that require a modern approach to treatment.
