Ukraine returned the bodies of 503 fallen defenders who died while defending their homeland. This was announced by the coordination headquarters on the management of prisoners of war.
Among the returned bodies:
- 403 soldiers from Donetsk;
- 12 from the Lugansk direction;
- 57 from the Zaporizhzhya direction;
- 31 The body was obtained from morgues in Russia.
The process of return was due to the joint efforts of the coordination headquarters, the Central Directorate of Civil-Military Cooperation of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the SBU, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ombudsman for Human Rights, an authorized person for disappeared persons in special circumstances, SES and other structures. The assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross played a significant role in this.
The bodies of dead defenders will be transferred to law enforcement agencies and forensic experts for identification. This will allow you to install the fallen persons in the shortest possible time and transfer their bodies to their relatives for a decent burial.
