On August 24, 2024, a new attack on drilling gas and oil and oil platforms in the Black Sea off the coast of Crimea, the so-called "Boyko's towers," became known. According to information of the Crimean Wind Monitoring Group, all three drilling platforms east of the island of Snakes were attacking.
At the time of publication, the average platform is burning, and a pillar of smoke comes from the third platform. This indicates serious damage and the possible spread of fire to the rest of the structures.
These drilling platforms in the Black Sea have become the subject of the conflict since 2014, when Russia has occupied them and has used them for military purposes, including helicopters and radar stations. In September 2023, Ukraine resumed control of platforms that were previously captured by Russia.
It should be noted that on June 20, 2024, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have already struck drunken installations under the control of Russia, known as "Boyko's towers". There were more than 100 people during the attack on the platforms. The strongest blow fell on the first platform, which was also used by the occupiers as an object of intelligence.
After this attack, the fire on the drilling platforms continued, and it could not be extinguished within a month. This indicates that the situation remains tense and requires further monitoring and intervention.
