The outflow of teachers from schools in Ukraine

Ukrainian schools are faced with a critical shortage of teachers, which is becoming an increasing problem in the country's educational sphere. This phenomenon not only threatens the qualities of education, but also calls into question the stability and effectiveness of the educational process in Ukrainian schools.

As the Minister of Education Oksen Lisovy said in an interview with Air Force Ukraine, one of the main reasons for the lack of teachers is low salaries. The average salary of the teacher is now 12 thousand hryvnias, but may be lower, depending on the load, the minister said.

Preschool salaries are even lower in preschools - 6 thousand.

“In fact, many educators, especially young people, receive salaries below the minimum (now the minimum wage in Ukraine is 8000 UAH - ed.). There are still different surcharges, but even with them salaries are scanty. It is more profitable for teachers to do tutoring or to leave the profession. In this case, the load on teachers is increasing. That is why people are massively released, ”says Yuri Kinkov, director of the Kyiv Educational and Educational Complex №141“ ORT ”.

The minister says that the most scarcity of teachers in English, mathematics, physics, computer science is felt.

And it's not surprising.

Teachers of informatics and mathematics are massively in IT, English - in tutoring and private language schools.

On average, individual training in a tutor costs from 300-400 UAH. That is, the same 18 hours a week for which a teacher receives about 8 thousand hryvnias a month in a public school, in private lessons can be provided up to 21.6-28.8 thousand a month.

And if you spend 5 lessons a day, the amount increases to 40 thousand a month.

English teachers can count on higher tariffs-up to 500-600 per lesson, that is, they have the opportunity to earn up to 60 thousand a month.

Therefore, the outflow of teachers from schools is serious.

And now the authorities do practically nothing to stop it. On the contrary, the Cabinet of Ministers recently adopted a resolution that actually "abandoned" the teachers who went to Europe. And in general, everything that happens in schools corresponds to the policy of "optimization" of educational institutions, which Ukraine promised the IMF before the war.

For parents, such trends mean only one thing: the quality of knowledge in children falls. And even in order for the child to master the standard curriculum, you have to pay extra.
