American genetics recreated the ancient species of the wolf, which died out more than 10 thousand years ago. This predator, known as the "Wolf", became the prototype of the Lutovovs, which appear in the series "Game of Thrones". Scientists from Colossal Biosciences have announced that they managed to bring out three cubs of this ancient species.
According to the Associated Press, cubs, which are currently 3 to 6 months old, are living in a secret safe place in the United States. Scientists have used DNA of prehistoric wolves found in fossils - a tooth of 13 thousand years with Ohio and a fragment of a skull 72 thousand years from Idaho. These fossils became the basis for research that made it possible to recreate the genetic material of the wolf terrible.
The reproduction process included the use of gray wolf cells, which were transferred to the domestic dog. Surrogate animals were fed babies who were born in 62 days. As a result, the scientists managed to bring out three small wolves that already have noticeable features of their ancestors - white wool, massive body and strong jaws.
Although these babies have some physical characteristics of ancient wolves, they will never be able to completely look like their ancestors. Scientists say that these animals will not learn to hunt as once, and therefore will not be able to hunt large animals such as moose or deer.
Despite this, the revival of this species is a significant achievement in the field of genetics and biotechnology, and shows new opportunities for reproduction of extinct species.
