The United Kingdom under the conditions of increasing tension by the Kremlin began to renew its strategies for action in the event of a direct military attack by Russia. According to The Telegraph, the Government secretly develops a modern response plan that has to replace outdated 20 years ago.
The decision is made against the backdrop of concerns of high -ranking officials that the country may be unprepared for a full -scale war and will become vulnerable to the face of modern threats - from rocket attacks to Cyberoperatives.
The Directorate of Stability is involved in the development of a new defense plan. The document covers a number of potential scenarios, including strokes with ordinary missiles, nuclear warheads and hacker attacks. According to journalists, special attention is paid to the protection of key objects - the government, the royal family, national energy systems, transport infrastructure, the judicial system and the media.
The purpose is to ensure continuous government in wartime. In the worst scenarios, the Cabinet of Ministers may be evacuated to the bunker on the Downing Street or to specially prepared locations outside London.
The new defense plan also provides for:
-
division of the country into 12 zones with its own military-civilian management;
-
reservation and normalization of food and building materials;
-
protection of key cultural values - their evacuation to Scotland;
-
BBC mobilization to inform the population during the crisis period;
-
preparation for attacks on gas terminals and nuclear power plants that pose a potential threat of radiation contamination;
-
Creating a comprehensive cyberwar strategy is for the first time at the national level.
The British authorities are particularly concerned about infrastructure vulnerability to hacker attacks that can paralyze the country without any physical invasion.
Although the document is classified as secret and is unlikely to be published in the coming decades, its appearance indicates a rapid increase in threats in Europe and Britain's readiness for the worst scenarios.
