With the advent of heat in Kiev, the season of increased tick activity began. Although spring is just beginning, doctors already record the first cases of bites. The danger of these parasites is warned by the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine, urging residents to be as careful as possible when walking in parks, forest parks, squares and even their own cottages.
Ticks are small but very dangerous parasites that can tolerate serious infectious diseases. Among them are the most common:
-
Lyme disease (borreliosis) - can affect the nervous system, heart, joints.
-
Tick -borne encephalitis - inflammation of the brain with possible neurological complications.
-
Babesiosis, anaplasmosis and other infections.
The greatest danger is that the tick can go unnoticed for a long time, since its bite is painless due to the content of anesthesia substances in saliva. During this time, the parasite can transmit the pathogen.
Experts advise to follow simple but effective safety rules to minimize the risk of bite:
-
Choose light clothing - it is easier to see on light clothing.
-
Use repellents - sprays or creams with "mites" will help to deter parasites.
-
Wear a headgear and tuck your pants in socks - it will reduce the chance that the tick will sit on you.
-
Avoid high grass, shrubs and fallen leaves - these are the main places for ticks.
-
After the walk, carefully inspect yourself, children and pets-it will allow you to notice the tick in time if it is still sucked.
Don't panic. Bites do not always lead to infection, but you should act immediately:
-
Contact the medical center or trauma center - where the tick will be removed professionally, which minimizes the risk of infection.
-
If you decide to extract the tick yourself:
-
Do not fill the tick with oil - it can produce even more toxins.
-
Use tweezers or a thread loop, gently grabbing the parasite near the skin.
-
Slowly pull out the tick, loosening it from side to side.
-
Treat the bite with alcohol, iodine or antiseptic.
-
Put the tick in a jar with a lid for analysis.
-
-
In the case of redness, fever, rash or pain - consult your doctor as soon as possible.
Thus, in Kiev, city services are treated with parks, squares, recreation areas and beaches with special preparations during tick activity. These drugs are safe for humans and animals, but they may not provide 100% protection.
The most important thing is the timely detection of the tick. The sooner you notice the parasite, the lower the likelihood of infection. So do not ignore the symptoms after walking and check yourself and your loved ones regularly. The bite revealed over the day significantly increases the risk of complications.
