There is no reliable evidence: the GUR cannot confirm the death of Yevhen Prigozhin, claims Yusov

A representative of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported that there is currently no new information regarding the fate of the former head of the Wagner group.

In Ukraine, there is no reliable data that would confirm the death of Yevhen Prigozhin, the former head of the private military company "Wagner". Andrii Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, stated this live on the Freedom TV channel.

According to him, there is currently no new information about what happened to Prigozhin.

"There are no new data on this. And to date, there are no facts that would confirm that Prigozhin died," said the representative of the GUR.

It will be recalled that the Russian media previously reported that Yevgeny Prigozhin died on August 23, 2023 as a result of a plane crash in which the plane he was on was killed. At the same time, the "Grey Zone" media reported that the plane carrying the ex-head of the private military company "Wagner" was shot down by Russian air defense. Prigozhin could have been killed on suspicion of conspiracy against the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in June of the same year.

It was also reported that before this conspiracy, Prigozhin tried to return his favor to Vladimir Putin. On June 23, a round table was held in the State Duma, during which deputies from the "Just Russia - Patriots - For Truth" party criticized the Russian government for insufficient support for its own army. It was noted that this party was loyal to "Wagner" and tried several times to legalize the private military company.

Later, the mass media said that Yevgeny Prigozhin may be hiding on one of the islands of Venezuela. Russian political scientist Valery Solovyov said that the leader of "Wagner" was warned about the preparation of the attempt and received instructions about the escape route. However, these data are not confirmed.

On December 22, 2023, journalists claimed to have identified a person who may be involved in Prigozhin's murder. It was noted that the murder was provoked by a former employee of President Vladimir Putin and his right-hand man Mykola Patrushev. Back in the summer of 2022, Patrushev warned Putin that Wagner was giving Prigozhin too much influence in both the military and political spheres. He considered it a threat to the interests of the Kremlin.
