The high -ranking representative of the Ministry of Defense on the Eastern NATO, Salma, interview Newsweek, spoke about the forecast of the war in Ukraine, which he called "war on exhaustion". According to him, Russia and Ukraine have deepened in this conflict, and it will probably last until 2024.
"This is a war for exhaustion. Russia intentionally wants us to think that they will survive, exceed the productivity of Ukrainian and Western enemies," Salm noted.
One of the key aspects of its analysis is the mobilization of Russia, which occurs every half year, which can actually use fewer persons in combat units than registering. Salm noted that most of them are used as "cannon meat" - disposable resources that are used and released.
Despite the failure of the summer counter -offensive of Ukraine in 2023, Salm warns that some political elites of the Western countries are "tired of Ukraine" and convince Ukrainian leaders about the possibility of a long war.
From the point of view of resources and ammunition, Salm emphasizes that the fracture has not yet occurred, and the war can continue until Russia is able to mobilize and maintain a certain level of military forces.
The situation on the front is complex and dynamic, and the question remains how the war will develop in the future and how long it will last. NATO remains to be supported by Ukraine and a willingness to respond to any events in eastern Europe.
