The war has caused Ukraine's agricultural sector for more than $ 11 billion

As of the beginning of 2025, the losses of Ukrainian agriculture as a result of a full -scale war, resolved by Russia, and temporary occupation of part of the territories are estimated at $ 11.2 billion. Alexander Zakharchuk, Head of the Investment Support Department of the NSC "Institute of Agrarian Economy".

According to him, the highest losses are about the destruction and damage of agricultural machinery - $ 6.5 billion, or 58% of total losses. Destruction and disruption of granaries resulted in losses worth $ 1.9 billion (17%). Another $ 1.9 billion is losses from theft, destruction or loss of factors of production and finished products. Another damage is estimated at $ 0.9 billion (8%).

According to experts, it was destroyed or lost:

  • 30 thousand tractors

  • 2.5 thousand combines

  • 11 thousand seeders

  • 8.7 thousand plows

These indicators indicate the mass nature of the destruction of the technical potential of the Ukrainian agricultural sector, which complicates even the basic restoration of production in the liberated territories.

Specialists of the Institute of Agrarian Economics outlined the main directions of post -war restoration of agricultural production. In particular, it is about:

  • creation of a favorable investment climate to attract internal and external investments;

  • development of domestic agricultural engineering, in particular the production of mini -technique;

  • creation of joint ventures for the production of innovative, high -performance and environmental equipment;

  • simplification of permits and reduction of bureaucracy;

  • Implementation of the state protectionist policy to support the national producer.

Experts also emphasize the need to restore government agricultural support programs to ensure a quick start of production and stabilize the situation in the agricultural sector that remains strategic for the Ukrainian economy.
