Higher risk of mental disorders in single people: study results

A group of researchers at the University of Versailles performed an analysis that reveals the connection between the state of mental health and life alone. According to the surveys conducted in 1993, 2000 and 2007 among more than 20,000 participants, it was found that people living alone are more likely to face mental disorders.

The results indicate a significant increase in the prevalence of mental disorders among single single, which increased from 8.8% to 10.7% over the study period. There was also an increase in the frequency of mental disorders among this group - from 14.1% to 16.4%. These reports remain stable regardless of age and gender differences.

Experts consider a variety of factors that cause an increase in the number of people who choose loneliness. Among them are the influence of digital world and social networks, as well as the influence of modern urbanization and planning of cities, which influences social isolation.

Scientists recommend taking measures to improve social support for those who live in loneliness. They propose to join groups with common interests and to actively involve social communities to reduce the impact of mental health.
